The Angolan Foreign Minister, Georges Chikoti, reaffirmed on Saturday in Brasilia, capital of Brazil, for the compulsory disarmament of the rebels of the Democratic Liberation Forces of Rwanda (FDLR), which have been de-stabilizing the eastern region of DR Congo (DRC).

The deadline for their voluntary disarmament, which was established by the UN, expired on last Saturday.

“We all agree with the conducting of military operation for the compulsory disarmament of FDLR, which should already have been dismantled 20 years ago”, said the minister.

Speaking to the Angolan journalists about the urgency of the measures for DRC stability, Georges Chikoti said that there is a consensus, but the forces depend on UN and also waits for the approval of the Congolese authorities to make viable the operation.

He spoke of the possibility of holding a summit on the referred matter, which will gather the member states of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), SADC, UN and AU, which may take place in Angola or other country.
